Yes. LAPD accepts training only from providers on its authorized CCW training list, and A2 Defense's 16-hour initial and 8-hour renewal certificates are accepted by LAPD.
After LAPD sends your approval notice. LAPD says training must be completed within 90 days of that letter or the application is withdrawn, so book your class as soon as you're approved. You can take our CCW Prep session any time before that.
LAPD issues CCW licenses to City of Los Angeles residents who are 21 or older, own at least one concealable firearm and aren't disqualified under Penal Code 26202. Good cause is no longer required. If you live elsewhere in LA County, your agency is usually your city police department or the Sheriff.
LAPD allows up to three firearms. Each one must be registered or DROS'd to you and listed on your training certificate, so qualify with every gun you plan to carry.
As of October 2026, LAPD lists $268 plus Permitium fees for a new license ($53 at application and $215 on approval) and $25 plus Permitium fees for a renewal. Live Scan is paid separately to the vendor. Training is separate: $300 initial, $220 renewal with A2 Defense.
Start 90 days before your license expires. Since January 1, 2026, a license that lapses more than 90 days requires a new application. As of September 1, 2026, renewals need a new Live Scan. Your 8-hour renewal training must be done before expiration and no more than six months before it.
Yes. Our online LAPD initial course ($300) covers the classroom portion online; the live-fire qualification is completed in person.
